Shitty in a Good Way

My thoughts on this Sunday morning have been filled with shit. For a couple of reasons, but most intellectually through familiarizing myself with urine diversion toilets. In learning that NYC sends millions of gallons of sewage-polluted water into its neighboring bodies of water each WEEK has caused me to think about each time I flush (I don't live in the city, but next time I visit Lil' Beau and Reen I will definitely let the yellow mellow). Further, my brother-in-law works at a water treatment plant in the small city next to me and his stories are anything but sweet-smelling (such as birds picking out used condoms and leaving them on walking paths around the plant). I started thinking about the times I relieved myself in Sri Lanka's toilets and how much I enjoy squatting over a hole. I love pissing outside and I know many friends who do also, such as PYTitty. So how could I not love the idea of converting my piss and shit into fertilizer?

Sweden is leading the pack in not only using these toilets at home, but creating organizations and intiatives in developing nations. The idea of using urine diversion toilets to create fertilizer and reduce pollution is progress for those third-world countries, but what about using this model in a country like our own? Could you imagine Billy Bob getting out of his big Dodge Ram pickup and taking a shit in his ecological toilet? I could maybe see this happening if he was a farmer, because what is more manly than fertilizing your crops with your own piss and shit? In all honesty I can't imagine running the idea of getting one of these by my parents, who were raised using outhouses in communist Poland. I can't really see them wanting to go back to something like that. Although, I will mention it to my dad later just to see what comedic comments he will come up with. For me, I would be totally down with this type of sustainable sanitation, because it can always be improved. I mean, people in Sweden are beginning to give it a shot, so why not at least read a little more about it here. Since we have started the engine on the "going green" bandwagon, we might as well work on how we can change our yellow and browns to green too!

  2. This reminded me of an experience I had yesterday. So, my new friend Ashley and I teamed up over our passionate interests in crafting and she had her friend hold a felting workshop yesterday. Aside from the amazingness from learning how to felt (and making a dank underwater sea-pebble looking cuff), Ashley lives a very eco-friendly existence. Not an ounce of paper or plastic products in the home, (mind you, she has two small children, too) which includes tp. Instead, she's instituted a cloth-to-bucket routine. Intense, I must say, but impressive.

  3. SHIIIIT!! (pun intended). Fuck man, I need to reshape my living. Invest in glass containers and get a fuckin bidet. I feel pretty good that I rock the mooncup and dont waste lady products (which i suggest everyone invest in, thanks Biff) and I compost. But plastic is the devil and i ain't no sinner. most of the time
